Fan Static Pressure Calculator

Calculate fan static pressure from fan total pressure and outlet velocity pressure.

Why it matters: Fan static and total pressure are different quantities and must not be interchanged when reviewing fan performance.

User inputs

Enter field measurements

3 inputs
Select I-P or SI units. Numeric entries are converted when the selection changes.
in. w.g. or PaTotal-pressure rise across the fan.
in. w.g. or PaAverage velocity pressure at the fan outlet plane.

Calculated result

Engineering evaluation

Within screening range
Fan static pressure (FSP)2.5 in. w.g.
Entered fan total pressure (FTP)
3.2 in. w.g.
Outlet velocity pressure (Pv2)
0.7 in. w.g.

Engineering interpretation

Calculated fan static pressure is 2.5 in. w.g.. Use this value only with data and efficiency definitions based on fan static pressure.

Motor-driven equipment

Estimate electrical demand and energy use

Use nameplate information and an operating schedule to screen motor input power, current, annual energy, and operating cost. Results update automatically.

Optional companion calculation
Choose the motor nameplate output-power convention.
Rated shaft output, not electrical input.
Used to estimate current; it does not change the hp-based energy result.
Use efficiency at the evaluated load point when available.
Use measured or defensible operating load rather than motor nameplate size alone.
Used only for the estimated current calculation.
Assumes all selected motors operate concurrently at the entered load.
Replace the profile with the actual occupied, process, or control schedule.
$/kWh
Use the applicable marginal utility energy charge; demand charges are not included.

Horsepower is converted using 1 hp = 0.7457 kW. This estimate assumes steady average load and the entered operating-point efficiency. Voltage and power factor affect estimated current, but hp, load, efficiency, quantity, and schedule establish the energy estimate. VFD speed profiles, cycling, standby power, demand charges, and process variation require separate evaluation.

Governing relationships
FSP = FTP−Pv2
Current substitution

FSP = 3.2−0.7 = 2.5 in. w.g..

Calculation sequence

Step-by-step method

  1. Confirm fan total pressure is the total-pressure rise across the fan.
  2. Confirm outlet velocity pressure represents the fan outlet plane.
  3. Subtract outlet velocity pressure from fan total pressure.
